The federally funded Corporation for National and Community Service offers opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to make their communities safer, healthier and stronger through service. In addition to the National Senior Service Corps, the Corporation oversees AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America programs for students.

National Senior Service Corps is a network of federally sponsored programs that helps Americans age 55 and older find opportunities to address community needs through service. In addition to RSVP, the Senior Corps includes the Senior Companion Program (SCP) through which seniors visit elderly people who need assistance with simple chores and errands in order to live independently, and the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), which provides opportunities for seniors to help community organizations meet, needs of children and youth.

Together, these programs involve over one half million seniors at tens of thousands of sites across the country. FGP and SCP meet income eligibility requirements, serve 20 hours per week and receive small stipends.
